i love games like these that are just... completely and unapologetically ridiculous from the start to the very end. and i also love games that while being completely and unapologetically ridiculous, put a ton of effort into the presentation to make the experience super memorable and unique. this game has a clearly enormous amount of passion poured into it despite the extreme unseriousness of everything, and i really appreciate that. oh and also the game is really funny. appreciate that too.
with how serious the other jam games are (mine included haha), it's nice to play something like this y'know? it was refreshing! :>
(SPOILERS)
at first i thought the story was gonna be confusing due to the huge number of characters, and i couldn't really tell apart what their personalities or relationships were like. but as the game went on and everyone got time in the spotlight they became really fun and memorable! the past they have with each other felt kinda like, they were OCs completely unrelated to this world that were thrown into this scenario to see what'd happen. that's not bad at all tho! just the vibe i got.
(ok so i just looked at the description and that's exactly what this was. please forgive my ignorance-)
and yeah these peeps are great! heather's annoyance with everything is fun, oswald was a cool slowly building antagonist, lumière and madison were like actually sweet? aimilios was funny and his mirror gag fucking killed me every time, and gianluigi spagettho is the greatest character humanity has ever conceived (ok but srsly, he was also fuckin hilarous and the fact nobody acknowledges him until he saves the day at the end was brilliant). these characters are super fun and actually made me care for them! and now i kinda wanna check out the other games they've been a part of haha.
like i said, the presentation clearly had a LOT of effort put into it! i've realized a.v. dossow has a very recognizable style they use with their sprites, which really highlights the huge...... personalities of everyone! it did a great job of making each character easily identifiable, apart from the art being nicely stylized in general. the character busts were neat too, and very expressive. love me some images that change depending on the character's emotion. and holy crap, i have to talk about the mermaid & poseidon designs because they're so cool!! they felt like a horribly twisted version of their common interpretations. every time a mermaid chased me it was legit terrifying lol, and the death pictures were super cool! and lastly, the backgrounds were really good as well. i loved how despite the similar colors, each area has a distinct tileset that makes it clear whether you're outside, in a cave, in a temple... overall the visuals were great, and they made the entire game look super unique! :D
the use of sounds was cool too, with the voiced lines being a particularly inspired choice. made the characters feel much more alive. and having original music (especially as great as this game's, that intro song goes HARD. congrats to both of you on the music) is something i REALLY love and appreciate in jam entries. well done! (also madison's campfire song better win every grammy)
if i had to mention any criticism, i think some dialogue segments were too long, especially at the beginning. as a newcomer to these characters, it was a bit tedious reading conversations between characters that haven't really been introduced. not like with descriptions for each one, i just think the dialogue could've done a better job of presenting them. and some parts were more fun than others; getting the crabs for the soup was a bit annoying cuz of their movement and the mermaid chase with the levers required a kinda unfairly quick reaction time. the final battle with poseidon was a little slow and could've been designed better, maybe having you run around a giant area and finding the crystals that way? but honestly, i'm already REALLY impressed with how big this is for a jam game, so a couple parts i thought were kinda tedious is really not that big a deal.
this was a super fun adventure with a charismatic cast of characters and a ton of extremely funny jokes. i managed to get every ending (and i appreciate that they were easy to get, i'm not really fond of searching for hidden endings so thank you for that haha) and overall i had a really great time. great job to everyone who worked on this!! <3
Well this is certainly an unexpected collab, but a welcome one I Guess, with a title like that I was definitely expecting some spooky submarine shenianigans and I was hugely disappointed thanks to my dumb delusional expectations.
The game itself it's fine, just clipped trough tiles once and it got stuck after the song but everything else worked like a charm, the puzzles (The name puzzle however has the potential to be very confusing they way it's laid out) and gameplay are fun and simple (in a good way), the music and sprites never disappoint with that delicious A.V.D sauce and the death CG's and various illustrations add so much to the game, great job with that HonetNutFemios.
Sadly I cannot say this one is one of my favorite ones, for me it really miss the mark of a healthy dose of comedy and references and it just because mostly missed repetitive jokes and overly meta usage of tropes; I really don't want to be overly harsh since this is just my opinion based on my preferences but most of the game was a little uncomfortable to get trough, and that never happened to me before with A.V Dossow games...
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of bangers like the spaghetti man (although some of his apparitions are questionable to say the least), collecting crabs, the introduction scene and dying; In this one sadly, it seems the bad aspects overwhelm the good ones, the game has a lot of boring dialogue that means nothing because this characters also mostly mean nothing for me (since they are from other games I don't even know).
Bottom line I'll saythis one was just not for me, from the characters to the overall tone of the game but still props for the great collab effort, the art and the boss battle.
Thank you! And my apologies to not meeting up to your standards this time around. I'm still learning how to be a compelling horror game dev and this collab with A.V.Dossow was still a good start! I do hope to learn more in the future, and I am glad you loved A.V.Dossow's fun and creative ways to use gameplay as well!
i got all the endings!! it was pretty fun honestly, however realistically i like the alesa series better due to less dialogues, that's just me tho others might like a well written game better!!!
oh- i played in english too i dont speak spanish, reason i left this comment is because it's a famous ongoing meme online where a guy says english or spanish then proceeds to say "first one to move is gay" in both languages lmaoooo T-T
Amazing game btw <3 i have yet to finish it but i love what i've played till now hehe
this is a good game had a good time playing it. also your character designs are uh very interesting. not complaining but i see you developer. also the little voice acting lines was pretty cool too
Great game! I had a lot of fun during my playthrough, especially with all the interactions between the characters. Spaghetto and his Spaghetti Pecs is beautiful, though I still maintain he was the one to sabotage our ship.
I love the art design and cg's, it definitely incentivised me to collect all the death scenes.
You did a really great job on the game, especially with the VA lines!
Thank you so much Meeka! I love the recordings you did on this game. I noticed you almost tried to get that Harem Ending first lmfao. Your commentary was also very appreciative!
